A Good Pour

It’s been awhile since I ventured an opinion on scotch or anything else for that matter. Today I want to talk about scotch. Not just any scotch but a scotch that has eluded my taste buds for some time. If you haven’t guessed already that scotch goes by the name Glenmorangie- The Quinta Ruban.

There are several types of Glenmorangie ranging in price from $70 to over $300 a bottle. I feel lucky to have tried this one. It retails at approx. $100.

Recently I was fortunate to have a friend offer me a “take home” sample, you know those little “airplane” bottles. Of course I readily accepted his generous offer. Currently we are into the third week of the lock down/ quarantine COVID-19 situation. I decided to wait for Thursday evening, my regular boys night out night to wet my whistle. Of course, unfortunately it would be an evening in without the boys.

After much anticipation Thursday evening finally arrived. In anticipation of this event I decided I would jot down my initial observations which I’ll list below and expound upon afterwards. I pored myself the contents of the “airplane” bottle and here are my first few thoughts:

if you cant read my scrawl see below
  • First sip a sweet fruity taste with a hint of vanilla.
  • Second sip I noticed the sweetness at the tip of my tongue with a comforting heat to the back of my tongue.
  • Third sip I can smell the caramel before I taste it!
  • Fourth sip on pure comforting enjoyment.

Glenmorangie is definitely built to appease the senses. Visually and I’m not talking about the packaging, the pour reflects a warm comforting almost amber image upon your eyes. To your taste buds you get the a fore mentioned flavours of dried fruit with hints of vanilla and caramel. Also as mentioned it appeals to your sense of smell; you’ll recall I said you smell the caramel before you taste it.

Last but not least I’ve come to understand how I came upon this great pour. Glenmorangie appeals to your soul. It’s definitely a comforting pour with so many more nuances and variances from any other scotch I’ve tried to date.(there are several 😉 ) You’ll want to share with friends not only to see their initial reaction but to enjoy the joy you will bring to their senses.

I declare this version of Glenmorangie a true nectar of the Celtic gods.
